Melbourn Anti-Social Behaviour
Practical Solutions Group (PSG)

Strategic Aims

The Melbourn Anti-Social Behaviour Practical Solutions Group will work together with an open-minded and united approach seeking to mitigate community problems.  Our aim is to substantially reduce the number of reports of Anti-Social Behaviour in Melbourn.  We will review our progress in September 2010 and agree as a group whether we need to continue.

Success will be achieved by considering the problems of anti-social behaviour (ASB) reported in Melbourn, identifying the causes and coming up with ideas to reduce the problems.  The group will then work together to implement the agreed options and then monitor their impact.

Scope

The group will use the police definition of Anti-Social Behaviour to record and measure their impact, however, the group accept that people have different perceptions and definitions of Anti-Social Behaviour.

The scope of the group will be village wide, in areas identified by the group as needing attention.  Areas agreed for initial focus include; Car Park and Church Walk (leading to All Saint’s community centre), The Moor, Vicarage Close, Saxon Way and Orchard Surgery.

Membership and structure

The group has been formed under the umbrella of the South Cambridgeshire Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership and will keep the Anti-Social Behaviour Task Group updated on progress.  The group will also provide updates to the Neighbourhood Policing Panel if the issue is identified as a Panel Priority.

The PSG will be made up of relevant representatives from the South Cambridgeshire Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership member agencies, representatives from the Parish Council and local residents.  The PSG will be chaired by the County Councillor for Melbourn.

The group will report to the Police panel and to the South Cambridgeshire Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership.

Meetings will happen on a monthly basis and all meetings will be minuted.  Agreed actions should be progressed expeditiously and the CDRP ASB Caseworker kept fully informed.

Communication

Proposals for action arising from the group will need to be made to relevant bodies, including the Parish Council, and where appropriate, the Melbourn Village Plan steering group. The PSG chair will be providing a regular report to the Parish Council.

The group will also ensure that we communicate effectively with local residents, including encouraging people to report Anti- Social Behaviour to the police, who will then inform the group.
