1st March 2011
Practical Solutions Group
Meeting
1 March 2011, 10-12
Melbourn Parish Office
Housekeeping matter: For the foreseeable future, we will have no admin help from CCC or SCDC for minute taking. Therefore members of the PSG will be asked to provide very brief written reports on their agenda items – thank you. Chair to coordinate.
1. Apologies:
2. Minutes of previous meeting
Approved.
3. Police report
a. ASB since last meeting – report attached below.
b. Continuing difficulties in Vicarage Close. The group felt that closing off pedestrian path to the playing fields was not the appropriate response; continued positive interaction between young and elderly would be preferable.
Action: ALL - a social event involving all ages should be planned.
c. Police office opening: should be sorted within the next month; matters of access and computer hook-up, as well as certain outstanding issues with the ground lease, pending.
d. Arrangements for police office volunteers:
Action: Neighbourhood PC to provide
4. Melbourn Youth Club reconfiguration update
a. Melbourn, Meldreth, Shepreth and Foxton PCs have been extremely supportive in all respects. It is anticipated that funding will be in place not only to continue the Youth Club but to develop it beyond its present configuration. Funding has been worked out on a proportional basis according to attendance samples. Fowlmere PC will be discussing at their March 15 meeting. PCs have sent representatives to form a Youth Club steering group which will meet on a regular basis.
b. Duke of Edinburgh Award update
Some confusion over the current status of this scheme in terms of access for MVC and Melbourn area students.
Action: MVC Bursar to query
Further concern that CCC funding to support the Award scheme is to withdrawn. Suggestion that the new Youth Club could explore possibilities for support.
Action: Youth Club Steering Committee to follow up at March 9th meeting
5. Basketball Club
The after-school club starts Thursday March 3, 3:30-4:330. Sports Hall use during school time will not require payment but CRB checked adult volunteer supervisors needed. MVC Parent Bulletin to advertise – Youth worker to ensure good blurb. Melbourn VP has put out appeal, as has County Councilor via her newsletter.
Action: Chair to cover volunteer rota for time being; A parish and a district councilor have offered to help out as needed.
6. High Street Car Park Update
The planning committee of the Parish Council has collected comments and ideas from its members upon the draft scheme prepared by the Huck Partnership. It is awaiting comments from the County Council upon the Safer Routes to School scheme. When these are available, the comments will be passed to the Huck Partnership for them to work up a second draft for discussion and consultation with near neighbours and other interested people. The budget for the work has been included in the Parish Council’s precept.
7. Village Plan update
Work continues with the drafting of the final report and action plan.
Steps have begun to share this draft report with both partner organisations and the village population in general. Communication will be via the village website, the press and the Spring Fair. Volunteers are now being sought to work in a variety of roles. The first work-day for Melbourn Conservation Volunteers at Stockbridge Meadows will take place on 6th March.
8. Any other updates: school crossing patrol officer
School Crossing Patrol Officer is off on long-term sick but is expected back. Funding has been protected, contrary to earlier concerns.
9 Date of next meeting: May 3rd, 10AM, MVC – room to be announced.
